Greig Taylor

“There are a lot of imitators out there, Greig Taylor is NOT one of them” – Earl Thomas (US double Grammy-Award nominee)

Welcome to the Official website for Greig Taylor, one the UK’s finest male vocalists. It’s been suggested by some that Greig Taylor is of the same mold of powerful rock/soul singers such as Joe Cocker, Mick Hucknall and Paul Rodgers of Free.

The reality is, as flattering as the comparisons are, Greig Taylor a multi-genre vocalist whose talents have recently seen him recently perform alongside double-Grammy nominated US blues and soul artist Earl Thomas, whose songs have been performed by legends such as Etta James, Soloman Burke and Tom Jones. In November 2018 Greig performed with Earl Thomas throughout Eastern Europe during a three-week tour, which saw them earn rave reviews and standing ovations throughout their 16-date tour with the vocal A cappella ensemble, The Gospel According...

Earlier in his career, GT built a large following in tandem with his time as the lead singer with GT’s Boos Band, who in 2016 gained nationally recognised appearances on the acclaimed BBC Four Television documentary ‘UK’s Best Part Time Band’, featuring Midge Ure as the band’s mentor.

After the demise of the GT’s Boos Band, 2017/2018 saw Greig perform with a range of musicians, including the Original Gary Moore Band (Pete Rees, Vic Martin and Graham Walker) during their Scottish dates with guitarist Mick Simpson. He has also appeared at venues and festivals throughout the UK, including Glasgow’s O2 ABC and Belladrum Festival, as well as many other shows throughout the UK and Europe with his various projects, which include the Greig Taylor Blues Combo and The Blind Lemon Gators.

Greig Taylor is a strong and vocal campaigner for mental health awareness and in 2017 released a charity single in aid of SAMH (Scottish Association of Mental Health). The song, a spine-tingling cover of Bruce Springsteen’s Dancing in the Dark, aims to highlight mental health and in particular the positive impact of music in relationship to it.

Following the success of this campaign, in 2018 Greig was able to do something he has always wanted to do; a ‘Songbook’ style album of choice covers by artists who have influence the Scottish singer in one way or another. The album was mastered at the famous Abbey Road Studios in London by renowned mastering engineer Miles Showell (Amy Winehouse, Queen, Abba, Phil Collins). The album follows a similar theme to the charity single, with Greig and his eight-piece band re-working hits by a host of well-known artists, including Joe Cocker, Depeche Mode, Neil Diamond, Chris Rea, Paul Carrack and 80's rockers Foreigner, as well as covering songs by such diverse artists as Alicia Keys, Willie Nelson and Canadian country artist Johnny Reid. A real eclectic mix of classics and more obscure songs which he has reworked in the studio with his first-class band. The album was made available for download in September 2018.

Greig Taylor is currently writing and preparing for 2019, which will see him release an album of completely original material with co-writer Jyrki ‘Muddy’ Manninen, formerly of the legendary Wishbone Ash, for his Greig Taylor Blues combo project, as well as releasing the debut album for his Blind Lemon Gators project.
